Food Ventures Catbalogan by Tetchie Cruz

Going to Catbalogan, the city of Samar you will find but few restaurants, yet there is one that serves their local dishes.  You will see in the photo also, the book which is available in the city if you would like to try the recipes of their local dishes. This is even launched at their website.




At the new Café Maria Rosario, you can have one of Samar’s most popular dishes, the tamalos or their version of the tamales, packed with slivers of liempo (pork belly) and chunks of soft fat cooked with rice flour in a spicy, rich peanut sauce.  


TAMALOS

You should try this mouth-watering tamalos, At P 150 per serving and ordered in advance, the freshly-cooked dish is good for two to three persons.

Although the coffee shop is also popular for its Samar torta and Spanish-era biscuits like the corioso, roscas, podrida and pasalubong favorites like hopia de pili and delicias de pili under the brand of Charito’s Delights; When you get there try to have your lunch there. They also catered lunch buffet. Fair enough compared in Manila.
