Food Ventures in Cebu City by Rowena Dabuet

Cebu City, officially the City of Cebu, is the capital city of the province of Cebu and is the "second city" of the Philippines, being the center of Metro Cebu, the second most populous Metropolitan area in the Philippines after Metro Manila.

· Area: 4,468 km²

They say that Cebu is one of the preferred tourist destinations in the Philippines. Well, I may agree to that, since based on my experience there are many other destinations you could visit via RORO if you are in Cebu. Some of the places I visited coming from Cebu are Ormoc and Dumaguete.

Aside from their famous places to visit, Cebu delicacy is the primary reason why I keep coming back to this province.

Here are the top 10 famous Cebu delicacies

Lechon - Considered as the "Lechon Capital of the World," Cebu offers the best kind of lechon.

One of the public's favorites, Zubuchon has been known for its unique style of makinglechon with no MSG and  no artificial painting of  the skin.

Dried Mango - Guimaras may be most famous for its sweetest mangoes but Cebu is famous for its dried version.

They say that mangoes are popular all around the globe but its poor shelf life may have been what pushed people to dry it. Cebu has perfected the art of drying mangoes that it has become a major exporter.

Dried mangoes are chewy and hard but they retain the sweetness and fruity flavor.

There are two varieties to choose: the ripe and green.

It is best eaten with spiced vinegar.

Otap is an oval-shaped crunchy baked biscuit  sprinkled with sugar. It is one of Cebu's  trademarks and in-demand pasalubong snacks.

Eating otap is challenging, it is impossible not to create a mess.  This pastry is just so flaky and sugary, it crumbles as soon as you lay a finger on it. And when you take a bite, it breaks into fragments as easily as your previous relationship. But unlike your ex, the taste is worth the mess.

Three of the most well-known Otap brands are Shamrock, Conching’s and Magic Melt.

Otap's price ranges from P50 to P300, it varies on the quantity and brand.

Chorizo de Cebu - It is a special kind of the native Filipino sausage or "longganisa," Cebu-made chorizo is known for its sweet, spicy taste.

Since Pinoys just love anything sweet, Cebu’s version of chorizo is incredibly popular for its sweetness. In Cebu, many restaurants grilled the chorizo on skewers and served with rice, while, outside Cebu, chorizo is usually cooked in water in medium heat.
